Road asphalt process

With improper, or a lack of, maintenance, the asphalt will deteriorate, and further down the road you will have to undertake removal and replacement of the asphalt. Compared to the simple process and low cost of the cold asphalt patch, removal and replacement requires professional help, which can be expensive. Parking lots and roads are usually a coarser mix. Coarser mixes are also recommended for driveways that get heavier traffic such as RVs, large trucks and tractors. Both mixes cost about the same. In most parts of the country, the asphalt laid over a properly prepared aggregate base should be 2 to 3 in. thick. Process It might start with our native asphalt but it doesn’t end there. We’ve engineered every part of our design and production process to ensure the performance of our patching material on distressed pavement. The Minnesota Local Road Research Board (LRRB) developed a set of pavement distress manuals, one for use with concrete and the other for use with asphalt pavement. Small and spiral bound, the manuals are designed for easy use in the field. They identify low-, medium-, and high-severity levels of each pavement distress with photos.
